Preheat oven to 375 degrees

Mix the following dry ingredients in a large mixing bowl:

(Sifting is a preferable way to ensure a good mixture of ingredients.  Note:  Do not sift our the whole wheat, simply dump back into the mixing bowl after sifting)

¾ cup of all-purpose flour

1-½ cups of whole-wheat flour

¾ teaspoon of salt

1 teaspoon of baking powder

Mix the following liquid ingredients in a medium-mixing bowl:

(For best results, mix the ingredients until the honey has fully dissolved into the warm water)

1-½ tablespoons of olive oil

3 tablespoons of clover honey

¾ cup of hot water

3 tablespoons of hot water

Pour the liquid from the medium-mixing bowl into the large mixing bowl of dry ingredients and stir with a fork until you have sticky dough.  In the large mixing bowl separate the dough into two equal portions.

Lightly butter two ceramic oval baking dishes (dishes should be about 4” wide, 6-1/2” long, 1” deep)

Dust hands with all-purpose flour and form each half of sticky dough into a ball.  Place ball of dough into buttered dish.  Lightly work dough into dish to fill evenly then take clean knife and score cross in top.

Place dishes into 375-degree pre-heated oven for 18 minutes.  Immediately remove loafs from dishes and place on cooling rack.  Lightly brush loaves with melted butter.

Makes two loaves.
